Project questions

How can I participate?
It’s quite easy. Just fill out the form on the contact page and your half way done. The better you describe your person and the more significant your submitted pictures are, the better is your chance to get picked by us.

Do I have to be a pro dancer?

No, definitely not. It doesn’t matter if you pay your bills with dancing or just have a big passion for it. A lot of very good dancers are no pro’s, so if you love what you do and want to bring yourself into the project, feel welcome!

What kind of dancers do you prefer?

The ones that love what they do with every toe they’re moving.
What kind of style do I have to dance?
No particular style. We’re open to all kinds of dancing.
Why is it called urban ballet?
Well, good question. Urbanity plays a very important role in the project, all shootings are outside and most of them at spots dominated by its architecture. Although it’s not limited to ballet we thought this style of dancing with its old tradition would show the contrast of what we’re going to do best.
In which cities are you shooting?
Depending on the city and the amount of dancers participating. So actually there’s no roadmap with cities on it, but we’re working on that. The more people the better the chance.
When do you come to my city?
As soon as a city is chosen we’re connecting to our network. This is the people we know which has a lot of contacts as well, social networking like Facebook and the forum. So keep your eyes and ears open.

Shooting questions

When do we shoot?
We’ll pick a date & time when we’re both available and that’s it. If we’re organizing shootings for a few days in a row we schedule every dancer his day, time and place.

Where do we shoot?
It depends. Sometimes we have spots in a city where we definitely want to shoot. Sometimes our dancers came up with great ideas for places we hardly know, and sometimes we just discover some amazing spots by walking around with eyes wide open. But in generell we choose a spot or an area before the shooting and meet there.

What do I have to wear?
Just take a look at the pictures we’ve already shot. Casual dancing clothes are absolutely ok. In most cases we recommend two pairs of shoes, some short pants, leggings, training tops and bodies. No logos or prints on it please. If you have a nice dress or something special that fits your dance style feel free to bring it with you. BUT: Be aware that we walk through the city, so bring only as much as you’re able to carry by yourself without problems. In most cases a midsize sports bag should do the job.

Do I get clothes from you for the shooting?
No.

What about make-up, hair and styling?
All to yourself or a buddy of yours. We won’t bring a stylist with us, sorry.

How long is the shooting?
It depends on the location, the weather, your condition and the amount of pictures we’re taking. But on average we’re shooting for about 4 hours with one dancer.

Do I have to pay you?
No. The shootings for urban ballet are free of charge for the dancers participating.

Do you pay me?
No.

What about the pictures?
After the shooting we have a close look at all pictures of the session and make a first selection. Then we show them to you and together we’re making the final decision which pictures are the best and will be published.

What about the rights for the pictures?
The rights management is handled very easy. Basically you’re not allowed to upload the pictures by yourself or use them in any other way. But of course you can place a link from everywhere to the urban ballet homepage, share the album we’ve created on facebook or any other social media platform we’re on. You are not allowed to sell the pictures or sell reproduced prints etc, so any commercial use by your person is prohibited. Before every shooting we set up a contract with the dancer which defines exactly this situation. We as the photographers receive all the rights on the pictures taken by us and are allowed to sell, distribute or publish them in any kind of way.

But: For a small fee you can buy the full rights for single pictures and use them in any way you want, no restrictions.

I want some pictures for myself, can you help me?
As professional photographers we pay our daily bills with our profession. So if you’re interested in a special shooting, independant from the urban ballet project, just send us a message. In this case you have to pay us, but all rights on the pictures belong to you, without any exception.
